Arise

My own life operating system: training, sleep, food and music in one app that logs everything exactly once.

Why

Every other app failed me somewhere

I tried the sleep tracker, the notes dashboard and the music app. Each one did one thing well and made me type everything twice. I wanted one place that I own, where nothing is logged twice and the app already knows what happens next.

How it works

Phone is the brain, watch is a window

  • Apple Watch
  • iPhone app
  • Self-hosted backend
  • Daily digest

The watch screen is rendered from data on the phone, so it never disagrees with it. Everything works offline and syncs through an outbox when the connection comes back. Nothing is lost if the gym has no signal.

Details I like

Small things that matter

TrainingSet logging with an automatic rest timer, the correct next set, and personal records that celebrate themselves.
SleepA smart wake-up based on when I actually fell asleep, not a fixed alarm.
FoodA daily budget shown as one number: calories left. No lectures.
MusicThe app picks and resumes the soundtrack, so a workout never pauses on a dead song.
What is interesting

I use it while building it

The best features came from noticing friction in the middle of a workout and fixing it that night. A rule I keep: never change the app while someone is training with it.
